The Local Community We Serve
Fernandina Beach is located in Nassau County, Florida on beautiful Amelia Island. Nassau County is the most Northeast corner of the state of Florida. Our principal industries are tourism, timber, fishing, shipping, and wood products (pulp and paper products). Our scenic, 13-mile long barrier island is bordered on the East by the Atlantic Ocean and on the West by the Intracoastal Waterway. We have three active marinas, from which boaters can reach the deep water in very little time. We have a deep-water harbor and a very active container shipping port.
In the past 400 plus years, 8 different countries have claimed Amelia Island. Our island’s 8-flag history is steeped in shrimping, shipping and pirates. Fernandina is credited as with being the birthplace of the modern, commercial shrimping industry. Every May, we celebrate our shrimping heritage at the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival where you can find artists and craftsmen selling their works, enjoy live music, eat lots of good food, browse through rows of antiques, and participate in lots of family activities. Our 50-block historic area is peppered with beautiful architecture, fine restaurants, quaint shops, and bed and breakfast inns. It is not unusual to see people enjoying a ride in a horse-drawn carriage while being given a guided tour of the most interesting sights and sounds of our historic downtown area.
Golfers can enjoy a choice of six golf courses on our little island. Whether you like outdoor activities like golfing, horseback riding, surfing, attending world-class antique car shows, sport fishing, sailing, kayaking, going to the beach or you enjoy indoor things like art galleries, museums, choral concerts, chamber music festivals, book festivals, antique stores, fine restaurants, community theatres, or specialty shops, you will likely fall in love with our friendly little community.
