How First Presbyterian Church Works
Board of Deacons – Provides for more individualized sympathy, witness and service to the congregation. As in the case of Session members, six members of the general congregation are nominated by the nominating committee to serve a three year term as a member of the Board of Deacons. These nominations and any others from the floor are presented to the congregation for a vote at the annual congregational meeting.
Standing Committees – A session member is appointed as chair of each of the nine committees that are charged with the detailed operation of their respective areas of authority. Other Session members and Deacons are assigned to one of the committees. Any other interested member from the general congregation is also encouraged to serve on the committee of their choice. Those with an interest in one of these areas, please speak to a Session member to be put in touch with the proper committee chair.
Christian Education – Sunday School curriculum selection, teacher recruitment, Vacation Bible School, etc.
Communication – First Press monthly newsletter, Website, advertisements, etc.
Evangelism – Outreach, evangelism, etc.
Finance – Stewardship Drive, Budget Management, Fund management, etc.
Membership Care – Fellowship Weekend, Church Suppers, and bereavement services, etc.
Missions – Selecting missions to support, management of Stewardship budget, etc.
Personnel – Hiring, salary negotiation and management, benefits package management, etc.
Property – repair and maintenance of physical structures, etc.
Worship – all phases of worship services and sacraments, management of sanctuary, etc.
