How First Presbyterian Church Works

Organizational Structure of First Presbyterian Church

(Part of the Presbytery of St. Augustine)
Session – The high level decisions, policies and procedures for the ongoing operation of the church are determined by an 18 member Session. Every year, six members of the general congregation are nominated by the nominating committee to serve a three year term as a member of the Session. These nominations and any others from the floor are presented to the congregation for a vote at the annual congregational meeting.

Board of Deacons – Provides for more individualized sympathy, witness and service to the congregation. As in the case of Session members, six members of the general congregation are nominated by the nominating committee to serve a three year term as a member of the Board of Deacons. These nominations and any others from the floor are presented to the congregation for a vote at the annual congregational meeting.

Divisions- A session member is appointed as chair of each of the six divisions that are charged with the detailed operation of their respective areas of authority. Other Session members and Deacons are assigned to one of the divisions or sub-committees Any other interested member from the general congregation is also encouraged to serve on the committee of their choice. Those with an interest in one of these areas, please speak to a Session member to be put in touch with the proper division chair.
