God’s Gift Shop 2020
No idea what to get someone for Christmas? Tired of buying another useless trinket? Looking for a gift that will actually change lives?
Every year around Christmas, the Outreach Committee offers you a way to make a real impact with the dollars you spend on holiday gifting. Imagine receiving a card that says, “A donation has been made in your name”!
Your gift will not only bring joy and pride to a friend, it will also help a third party in need. That’s the beauty of shopping at God’s Gift Shop! Thank you for considering us for your gifting needs this year.
Getting started is easy!
– Download the letter, learn about the beneficiaries, and fill in the form.
– Make out a check for the total, or pay by credit card – just specify “God’s Gift Shop”.
– Send the form (and check, if using) to the Church Office. You must send in the form even if using a credit card.
– If picking up cards, call the office to schedule a convenient time!
Our 2020 Beneficiaries:
THE INTERFAITH DINNER NETWORK (IDN)
The IDN provides meals to the homeless and needy in our community at the Salvation Army Hope House. While FPC supports the mission of IDN by preparing and serving meals twice a month, the IDN also needs our financial support. Due to COVID, packed “to go” meals have replaced the usual seated meal service. The need for daily meals has also grown by 50%. Operation costs have thus climbed to $300 a month. Your donation will go toward professional kitchen sanitization, carry-out containers, utensils, and kitchen supplies, and ultimately ensure that those dependent on IDN get the nightly meal they need.
THE COUNCIL ON AGING
Your donation will help us address the unmet needs of seniors in Nassau County! Through our Chore Program, we will (a) replace stairs with ramps for wheelchair-bound seniors, so they can stay in their own homes; (b) install “grab bars” and other fixtures that provide in-home safety, (c) purchase and install air-conditioning for seniors’ homes to ensure health and safety during hot periods, and (d) deliver wheelchairs and hospital beds, provide mold prevention, and provide home repair/installation, e.g. smoke detectors, lift chairs, door locks, kitchen and bathroom sinks/tubs, toilets, minor plumbing and electrical items, and many other needs.
PRESBYTERIAN SEMINARIANS IN CUBA
Seminario Evangelico de Teologia (SET) is an ecumenical seminary in Matanzas, Cuba, supported by the Presbyterian and Episcopal churches. Established in 1946 by the Cuban Council of Churches, SET has since educated future ministers from all over Cuba and 18 foreign countries, and from more than 30 denominations and religious institutions. Currently, there are 7 full-time Presbyterian candidates for ministry enrolled on campus. On top of their four-day school week, these students serve 3 days a week as pastors for small local congregations. Your donation will help them with buying textbooks, transportation, housing, meals and more.
COMPUTER LABS IN HAITI
There are 1,500 students of Pre-K to high school age on the island of La Gonâve, located off Haiti’s western coast, studying in the 10 schools supported by La Gonâve Haiti Partners. The island is accessible only by boat. School children have limited interaction with the world beyond their local community. Your donation will go towards funding a computer lab, which will expand access to knowledge, educational tools and materials for both students and teachers. It will be a secure, dust-free facility provided with reliable power and air-conditioning. From our own island, let’s make education more accessible, exciting, and updated for La Gonâve!
